I know it sounds kinda weird, but I was talking about this the other day with DaftRyosuke and E90M3. I can’t help but associate Depeche Mode’s 1989 album Violator (and its songs) with the 964.
They kinda just seem perfect for one another. Driving around in a Tiptronic 964 Targa blasting “Policy of Truth” seems so right.

‘ Don’t you want me’ by the Human League with the Rover SD1, besides that I tend to associate new wave/synth-pop with funky 80s cars like the BX Sport I test drove on Friday.

Most of the time I’ll name my cars based on a song.
My first car was named War Machine from the Black Sabbath song War Pigs. Since then i’ve also had Lucky from Daft Punk’s Get Lucky and Monster from Approaching Nirvana’s song of the same name.

The Clash’s London Calling with the FoST. I blame Ben Aaranovitch.
Marianne F aithfull’s Ballad of Lucy Jordan with the Alfa Duetto Spider. I know for most people it’s contaminated by Dustin Hoffmann, but for me it’ll always be the car Lucy’s never goi ng to ride in.

Funny, I used to listen to “Violator” all the time in the late run W126 I had ages ago. The album (one of the best ever from any artist) was contemporary to the car, and just worked:
The songs “Take on Me” and “Falling in Love “ (Gloria Estefan) make me think of the 85 Tempo my mom had when I was young, as I recall listening to them in that car.

I associate the W126 with Hasselhoff’s “Looking for Freedom” since it’s period correct. I do appreciate your taste in both music and cars, though.

The song December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night) by the four season is what I’ll always remember when I see a corvair. I would blast it constantly when I had that car, and I will when I have another down the line

I listened to A LOT of electro-swing on Pandora when I was doing the head gaskets on the Land Rover. Associated a lot of songs with the bittersweet experience .

That was my best friends. We did pretty well for some 20 year olds. Sadly both cars are now gone . I would take the corvair though all day, unless the 8 was manual
